Umirserik Kasenov grant for research on Central Asia

The Central Asia program of George Washington University and the Central Asia Regional analytical network (CAAN) announce a competition for the Umirserik Kasenov grant to conduct research on Central Asia.

Subject of research: Central Asia

The purpose of the grant is to support research on security, political, economic and social development in Central Asia. Works considering various aspects of interaction of Kazakhstan with neighbors, both at the level of the states, and societies are especially welcomed.

The format of the research:

Research should be based on primary sources — documents, archival data, surveys and interviews with experts. Implementation of «field work» (fieldwork) — required.
The results of the research should be presented in the form of a scientific article, well-structured and written in a clear and understandable language to the educated public. The work should contain recommendations. The material will be reviewed for publication by the George Washington University Central Asia Program and the Central Asia Regional analytical network (CAAN).

Grant:

The total amount of the grant is up to $ 1,500 (the amount for «field work» is up to $1,000 depending on the direct costs of the research; the fee after the submission of the article is $500). The amount provided for «field work» can only be used for movement within the region.

Application conditions:
Education-at the time of application, the applicant must have a master's degree or be a student of a master's program. Age-up to 35 years. The grant is intended for citizens of all Central Asian republics (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan).

Applications are accepted in Russian or English.

Applications are accepted until November 1, 2019.
