Thematic Workshop 'Water management and uses — nexus with climate and food', Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

This workshop covered a lot of topics including hydrology and water availability; improved irrigation technologies; innovative agro-business and tolerant crop development; Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and earth observation solutions. Cross-cutting issues was also addressed including data accessibility, interoperability and reusability; skills development, training and education; science-policy feedback; socioeconomic issues; research and innovation (R&I) funding issues.

The workshop was organised by the European Commission and its International Service Facility for R&I, by local co-organisers Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), Tajik Agrarian University, and Committee on Environmental Protection, and in close cooperation with the EU Delegation to the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The key objectives of the workshop included the following aspects:
1. To provide and exchange information on innovative EU and Central Asian approaches on technological, institutional and methodological aspects of tackling and managing water challenges, as well as related challenges such as food, climate and energy.
2. To support the transregional dialogue on water science and technology (S&T) issues, and provide opportunities for networking among researchers and innovators from the EU and CA countries.
3. To provide input to potential joint initiatives on the topic, to be presented at the second network meeting in November 2019, for a sustainable follow-up process of the network.
The representative of the UNESCO Chair on IWRM of Kazakh-German University Kogutenko Larissa took part in the workshop with the presentation on the issues of the water flow changes at the transboundary rivers.
