Round table «QUARANTINES: HOW EDUCATION EXPERIENCES SELF-ISOLATION» will take place in DKU on April 24

ON APRIL 24, 2020, AT THE INITIATIVE OF F. EBERT FOUNDATION IN A DISTANCE FORMAT ON THE BASIS OF THE KAZAKH-GERMAN UNIVERSITY TOPICAL ROUND TABLE ON DISTANCE EDUCATION ISSUES IN KAZAKHSTAN TOOK PLACE

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought the entire planet and all areas of our existence to a rapid transition to new standards of existence, educational processes are no exception. How ready are Kazakhstan's universities for the challenges of the new reality? How did students react to innovative forms of education? Who is most vulnerable in this situation: students, lecturers, the administration of educational institutions, or the Ministry of education and science itself? Participants of the round table will try to find answers to all these questions. On the dialogue platform, within the framework of a civilized discussion, representatives of the F. Ebert Foundation Representatives of the administration and lecturers of DKU, parents and students of Almaty universities, representatives of the press, bloggers and international experts will try to solve difficult problems of our time.

The following issues will be discussed in the agenda of the round table:

• Can the transition to online education in Kazakhstan be considered successful?

• What conclusions can we draw for the future to avoid current mistakes?

• Will the situation with the pandemic give a qualitative boost to the development of distance learning in Kazakhstan?

The main goal of the event is to create comfortable conditions for demonstrating their point of view to all interested parties, as well as to develop joint recommendations for improving online learning in the higher education system of Kazakhstan.

Professional moderators will focus on the following aspects of the discussion throughout the round table:

• Students' opinions on how the online learning process is going, whether they are satisfied with the quality and format of online lectures and practical tasks.

• The opinion of lecturers about how online training differs from the standard offline mode, what difficulties they had to face and how they cope with it.

• Parents' opinion on how satisfied they are with the quality of their children's online education.

• The opinion of the University management on what efforts they had to translate a huge amount of educational and didactic material to online platforms.

• The MES opinion on how all these processes are organized and controlled.

Speakers of the round table will be:

• Students of the 1st and 3rd year (technical and humanitarian directions) of Almaty universities.

• Parents of students studying in higher educational institutions of the southern capital.

• Lecturers of Almaty universities.

• Acting rector of DKU, Professor A. A. Azhibayeva

• Representative of the MES.

• Journalists and bloggers.
