DKU presented the concept of sustainable development at the 24th meeting of the REFORM Group

On 24−28 August 2020, the 24th REFORM Group Meeting was held on the topic «How to reach Carbon Neutrality / Climate Neutrality?» Meeting partners: Berlin Energy Consultants, Hochschule für Politik München, DF Deutsche Forfait, FFU — Environmental Policy Research Centre, British Petroleum.

The meeting was originally scheduled in Raitenhaslach, Germany. But the meeting was partially held online, as some of the participants could not be physically present due to the restrictive measures of the quarantine regime.

Participation in the meeting was of particular interest for the Kazakh-German University, as it is currently developing its own concept for sustainable development. Within the framework of the event, this concept was brought up for discussion, which made it possible to present new developments of the university, as well as receive feedback from colleagues with international expertise.

Barbara Janusz-Pawletta, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, took part in the meeting as a speaker. The topic of her report was «Implementation of green and sustainable approach in higher education. Case study of the Kazakh-German University in Almaty», where she talked about ecology-oriented specialities, about the environmental experience of Kazakh-German University (solar panels in the building on Pushkin 111, sorting of waste, collection and delivery of the waste paper to recycling centres). There were also presented the ideas of the students of the DKU, which were able to improve the ecology in the city. And also Barbara, being UNESCO Chair Holder in Water Management in Central Asia at DKU, shared experience of the trips, trainings, creation of educational and methodological materials within the UNESCO Chair.
