The program consists of four webinars, which were organized in the period from November 3, 2020 to May 20, 2021:

2. «Key structural and institutional reforms needed to achieve economic sustainability of the water sector in Central Asia” (February 25, 2021);

3. «Defining the economic framework for Regional Water Cooperation in Central Asia” (April 15, 2021);

4. «Strategic aspects of water resources management in Central Asia” (May 20, 2021).

Documents (background documents, summaries, agendas) of webinars can be found here:

The results of these webinars will be presented at:

  • World Water Week in Stockholm on August 2021;
  • face-to-face seminar scheduled for September in Almaty;
  • parallel event on water resources during the first Economic Forum «Central Asia-European Union”, which will be held in Bishkek (scheduled for October);
  • parallel event during the Planet Budapest 2021 Sustainability Expo (November 29 — December 5, 2021).

Main goals and objectives:

The main goal of the project is to demonstrate convincingly how improvements in water management mechanisms can be an influential impetus for a sustainable recovery from the COVID-19 crisis, with a focus on the green economy. An analysis of the economic, institutional and strategic aspects of water management will enable participants to develop both short-and long-term recommendations to support decision-makers at the national and regional levels.

Scope of work:

The research should include an analysis of the issues raised during the four webinars.

Proposed methodology:

If necessary, CUB can provide recommendations to researchers on data, sources, and methodology.

The work will be evaluated by a group of experts invited by CUB and Kazakh-German University (DKU).
