The session «Youth of Central Asia» was held within the framework of the international conference «Silk Road of Knowledge»

The youth session «Youth of Central Asia and the puzzle of climate action» was held within the framework of the international online conference «Silk Road of Knowledge: Meeting of Science and Green Policy».

Issues of climate security and water resources in the region were discussed at the meeting.


In the first part of the session, the speakers:

  • Natalia Vechmer is an economic affairs specialist at UNESCAP, who spoke about the role of youth in achieving sustainable development both in the world and in the Central Asia region.
  • Vlastimil Samek is a representative of the UN Department of Global Communications, UN IC, who outlined the importance of a new generation in addressing climate and water issues.
  • Larisa Kogutenko is the head of the IWRM Master's Program, who conducted a brief excursion into the climate security of Central Asia.

In the second part, interactive events were presented in the form of a colloquium, where representatives of youth organizations and initiatives spoke about the activities of young people in the field of climate and water resources.


The event was open to:

  • young professionals;
  • eco-activists;
  • students and scientists from all countries of Central Asia (CA) and neighboring countries.

The final event of the session was the group work of the participants of the youth session in the World Cafe format, which provided the guests with the opportunity:

  • to participate in the process of developing a statement from the young generation of Central Asia;
  • to participate in the process of developing a statement from the youth of Central Asia, which will be presented at The World Water Forum in December in 2022.
