The presentation of the book «Tomorrow was too late» took place in the capital of Kazakhstan

The presentation of the eco-book Tomorrow was too late. Environmental risks of Kazakhstan, which is a description of the stages of implementation and the results of a research project on key environmental problems of Kazakhstan This project was implemented by the Private Fund of Dossym Satpayev in partnership with the Kazakh-German University with the support of the OSCE Program Office in Nur-Sultan, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Kazakhstan, as well as the eco-magazine Living Asia.

Ecology is an integral part of people's full life. Kazakhstan became the first country in the post-Soviet space, where the idea of green economy was implemented. It in turn became the basis for further significant changes in the field of ecology and transition to measures aimed at reducing the degradation of natural resources. With each passing year, environmental challenges become more urgent and more complex. The common goal we must strive for in solving environmental problems must be sustainable development, which is based on the preservation of available natural resources and ecological potential, and the restoration of an environment that has been subject to destruction and ruthless exploitation for many years. Development can only be sustainable if it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. In this situation, it is important to strengthen timely dialogue between policy makers and the scientific community to jointly address environmental issues in the region.

The eco-book was developed by Kazakhstani experts with the help of international consultants on the topics that are the book's individual chapters: water management, air pollution, waste management, land degradation, biodiversity, energy efficiency and climate change. The aim of the environmental project was to show the direct and indirect links between environmental threats and risks in Kazakhstan, and to develop a set of recommendations for decision-makers and NGOs to prevent or mitigate environmental threats

Participants of the event:

  • Representatives of key ministries dealing with environmental protection issues;
  • Representatives of scientific communities;
  • Representatives of the mass media.

According to some of the organizers of the presentation, in particular the representative of the Kazakh-German University — Barbara Janush-Pavletta — the event was aimed not only at presenting the book to a wide audience of interested parties, but also at public discussion of the key ideas and recommendations of the monograph among representatives of science, journalists and decision-makers on the topics of environmental risks in Kazakhstan.
