The official information about the situation in the city and the country, 11.01.2022

Dear fellow citizens, students, teachers, and residents as well as guests of Almaty, please read the official information about the situation in the city and the country:

Chronology:

4 January. Almaty, like a number of other cities, was the victim of violence and terror. There were violent clashes in the streets with many injured, dead and looted.

5 January. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev declared a state of emergency and announced a nationwide anti-terrorist operation. In addition, taking into account the external nature of the terrorist plot, the President asked the CSTO to send CSTO-peacekeepers to Kazakhstan. This was the right decision, after well-trained and long-prepared for a large-scale operation, violent criminals tried to take the targeted control of all strategic facilities and places in Almaty.

10 January. 10.01.2022 — has been declared a Day of National Mourning in Kazakhstan. The situation has stabilised in most parts of the state. Also in Almaty.

11 January. Shops are open again and the first bus lines are running again. Internet and social media are temporarily accessible. Studies should start as planned on 24 January at the beginning of the new semester.

Our university buildings have not been damaged. We ask you to follow the security measures during the state of emergency.

Take care of yourself and act prudently and cautiously!
