The Student Olympiad on Sustainable Development Goals was held in Uzbekistan

The next country where the national level Student Olympiad on Sustainable Development Goals was held was Uzbekistan. The competition was held on April 9 and 12, 2021.

The event focused on capacity building and deepening the knowledge of future professionals and students on Sustainable Development Goals # 6, 7, 9 and 13 and included the following three sections:

-Integrated water resources management;

-Climate change and clean energy;

-Industrialization, innovation, and infrastructure.

The official opening of the Olympiad was held in the building of the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (TIIAME), a partner university of the Kazakh-German University (DKU).

The Olympiad consisted of 2 stages, which were held in the online format:

1st stage — written testing;

2nd stage — interview with the jury members.

The total number of participants of the 1st stage was about 50 students from universities of Uzbekistan. The participants who scored the highest number of points in 1st stage were invited to the interview. Between the written and oral stages, the participants of the Olympiad had the opportunity to attend presentation on the Central Asian Youth Water Network, as well as to ask their questions to the national coordinator of this network.

The winners of the 2nd stage will receive information about their further participation in the regional stage by e-mail.

DKU is grateful to the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers and other universities of Uzbekistan for providing the opportunity and conditions for the Olympiad.

The event was organized by the DKU Institute of Natural Resources in cooperation with the Central Asian Youth Water Network «CAY4W» with the financial support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the World Bank, as well as with the expert support of the Global Water Partnership and The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) together with the UN Information Centre in Almaty.
