The Fourth Annual Summer School on the Aral Sea.

The Fourth Annual Summer School on the Aral Sea will be held on August 10−20, 2022.

The school is intended for the younger generation, who will influence the situation in the region in the future.

Participants from Central Asia and Afghanistan will have the opportunity to establish contacts with experts from the water industry, learn more about regional and cross-border cooperation and, in addition, unlock their potential in the field of water resources.

The event is organized by the Kazakh-German University in partnership with UNESCO, the German Foreign Ministry, GWP, IFAS, the Barsakelmes State Nature Reserve and others.

The Summer School is open to both national and international students (bachelors, masters and doctors of sciences) of various disciplines.

What do I need to take part in the summer school?

  • Be between the ages of 18 and 35.
  • Speak English (knowledge of Russian is preferable).
  • Have knowledge of the regional situation of Central Asia.
  • Have work experience and/or research related to the Aral Sea.
  • Be ready to use the knowledge and experience gained during the summer school.
  • Interest in the three main topics of the school is desirable: water for food and agriculture, groundwater, water for economic prosperity.

How much does participation cost?

The organizers pay the costs of participation in the event to candidates from Central Asian countries, namely citizens of Central Asian countries and Afghanistan.

Participants from other countries must pay their own visa, insurance and travel expenses from their country to Almaty and back. Other expenses, including meals, accommodation and travel from Almaty to the Aral Sea and back, are covered by the inviting side.
