Contribution of higher education to the development of human capital in Kazakhstan during the COVID pandemic

Barbara Janusz-Pavletta, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation of the Kazakh-German University, took part in the round table on the topic «Contribution of higher education to the development of human capital in Kazakhstan in the period after the COVID pandemic».

The organizers of the event were:

  • Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University
  • World Bank Group in Kazakhstan

As part of the active discussion, the participants touched upon the following topics/questions:

  • Problems faced by higher education institutions after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • What measures have been taken by the Government to provide specific support to universities and the higher education system during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • What is necessary to ensure the adaptation of universities to the future after the pandemic. In particular, how it is necessary to adapt learning and teaching to help students catch up in learning, prevent dropouts and maintain the level of graduates.

  • How higher education can help accelerate recovery after the COVID pandemic and strengthen equitable human capital in Kazakhstan, as well as ensure that graduates have technical and employment skills and adapt to the labor market after the pandemic.
