A round table on energy conservation was held on December 8, 2020

A round table on «Energy saving and energy efficiency in the construction sector», organized by the Kazakh-German University (DKU) with the support of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Kazakhstan, took place on December 8, 2020.

The event was held online and offline the Novotel Almaty City Center in Almaty.

The round table was opened with an introductory speech by the representative of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Kazakhstan — Mrs. Mereilim Kalen. Dr. Barbara Janusz-Pawletta, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, delivered welcoming remarks on behalf of the Kazakh-German University.

The participants of the event were specialists in the field of energy efficiency standards in the construction sector, engineers, representatives of universities and international experts.

Dr. Rashid Sharipov, professor at DKU, presented a keynote speech on «Problematic issues of energy saving and energy efficiency in the construction sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan». Alexey Kobzev, project manager on renewable energy and climate change at DKU, outlined the cases of international experience in energy conservation and energy efficiency. Also, Dr. Arsen Tleppaev, Associate Professor of Faculty of Economics and Business at DKU, delivered a report on financial incentives for energy efficiency in buildings.

The presentation of Prof. Dr. Bodo Lochmann, DKU, who also teaches at the University of Zittau in Germany, aroused a great deal of interest because he used the example of his own house to demonstrate the basic renovation actions required to significantly increase the energy efficiency of a house and showed the 2-fold difference in the heating bill of an ordinary house and a renovated house. Very comprehensive statistical information was provided by Prof. German Trofimov in his report on «Problems of Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency in Residential and Administrative Buildings in Kazakhstan». Moreover, Dr. Murat Musabekov, Kazakh Academy of Transport and Communications named after M. Tynyshpayev (KazATK), in the report on «Conducting an energy audit in the Republic of Kazakhstan» displayed fascinating materials. Mr. Valery Slavikovsky, Commercial Director of ReEnergy Trade LLP, highlighted the most notable energy efficiency solutions. Mr. Srymgali Yerzhanov, Advisor to the Director-General on Science of JSC «Kazakh Research and Design Institute of Construction and Architecture», shared his thoughts on the need to solve the problems of energy conservation.

During the discussion, all participants supported the decision to add their suggestions to the publication that will be prepared by Kazakh-German University with the support of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Kazakhstan.

We can confidently confirm that the round table discussion was successful and will contribute to the development of practical energy-efficient solutions in the construction sector.
