DKU Talks: «Central Asian Migrants in Western Europe»

Abstract:
The presentation will focus on the magnitude of the Central Asian migration to Western Europe, highlight the problems that the migrants face in Europe, and discuss the range of measures that European countries undertake to accommodate the Central Asian migrants.

Biography:
Portuguese senior anthropologist, António Eduardo Mendonça (Lisbon, 1960) has taught at the Universities of Algarve and Lusófona (Portugal) and of Ankara (Turkey). Currently, he is a researcher at the IGOT (Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon), in the field of Migrations, with projects dealing with the post-soviet countries. He was the co-convenor (with Elena Bulakh) of the «International Workshop on Post-Soviet Diasporas in Western Europe, 1991/2017» (December 2017, Lisbon/Cascais (http://www.igot.ulisboa.pt/evento/international-workshop/). He has also served as vice-president of the Portuguese Anthropological Association.
