German-Kazakh Institute of Sustainable Engineering Sciences (KINI)

In Aktau the German-Kazakh Institute of Sustainable Engineering Sciences (KINI) has been opened. The new educational institution is established by the Kazakh-German University (DKU) in collaboration with the Caspian University of Technologies and Engineering named after Yessenov.

The German-Kazakh Institute of Sustainable Engineering Sciences focus on developing future technologies and implementing the German model of applied engineering education in Kazakhstan. The institute will also contribute to research and innovations that promote sustainable economic and social development in Mangystau.

The German-Kazakh University (DKU) facilitated the creation of a network of partners from leading German technical universities who will collaborate with the new Kazakh-German Institute of Sustainable Engineering Sciences. This network includes the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg), the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin), the Darmstadt Technical University (TU Darmstadt), and the Technical University of Wildau (TH Wildau).

In 2023 the institute has launch two educational programs: «Energy and Environmental Engineering» and «Logistics.» They are aimed at training specialists for green hydrogen production in Mangystau and supporting the development of logistics for the middle transport corridor from China to Europe via the Caspian Sea.

In the field of green hydrogen, the German-Kazakh Institute of Sustainable Engineering Sciences will collaborate with the German-Swedish company SVEVIND, which is commencing the construction of a green hydrogen production plant in Mangystau and plans to create one of the world's largest mega-parks for wind and solar energy in the region.
