Visit of the President of the German Bundesrat Anke Rehlinger to the Kazakh-German University in Almaty

On May 30, 2025, as part of her official visit to Kazakhstan, the President of the German Bundesrat, Anke Rehlinger, visited the German-Kazakh University in Almaty. This event highlighted the importance of educational cooperation between the two countries.

The President of DKU, Professor Dr. Wolrad Rommel, presented the university’s development strategy and emphasized its role as an international educational center in Central Asia. The university offers programs in engineering, IT, logistics, economics, and international relations, and is engaged in cutting-edge research topics—from green energy to agrotechnology.

During the meeting, special attention was given to DKU’s partnerships with German universities and the opportunities for double degrees. Anke Rehlinger emphasized the university’s significance as a key partner in the German-Kazakh educational dialogue and expressed readiness for further cooperation.

Members of the delegation from the federal state of Saar, accompanying Ms. Rehlinger, expressed interest in cooperation in the fields of sustainable development and environmentally oriented technologies. Sustainable development is one of DKU’s priority areas, including the energy transition, rational use of natural resources, and training specialists capable of meeting future challenges.

Infrastructure issues were also discussed, particularly the need to establish the university’s own campus.

DKU remains an important platform for training young professionals, advancing science, and strengthening international relations between Kazakhstan and Germany.
