International Forum “Central Asia’s Sustainable Development Goals in a Changing Global Order”

On September 19, 2025, Almaty will host an International Forum dedicated to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Central Asia amid a rapidly evolving global landscape.

The event is organized by the Kazakh-German University (DKU) in cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the University Alliance Ruhr.

The Forum will bring together leading academic and policy institutions from the region and Europe, including the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), Qazaq Green, and others.

The Forum is designed as a strategic dialogue platform for scientists, policymakers, business leaders, and international organizations. It will convene experts in economics, governance, climate science, energy, water and land resources, biology, and geosciences.

In the face of climate and demographic shifts, as well as geopolitical transformations, Central Asia is confronted with the urgent need to develop coordinated, science-based solutions through cross-sectoral collaboration. A key focus of the Forum will be the comparative analysis of regional decarbonization pathways in a global context. Participants will explore practical solutions for Central Asia and assess the impact of current geopolitical changes on the region’s sustainability strategies.

Key objectives of the Forum:

  • Promote cross-sectoral cooperation between science, policy, public administration, and business
  • Initiate discussions on scientific innovation and its practical applicability
  • Facilitate knowledge and experience exchange among regional sustainability stakeholders.

The Forum aims to serve as a collaborative platform for developing integrated solutions that unite scientific expertise and policy practice in pursuit of a sustainable future for Central Asia.
