Information meeting on the prevention of religious extremism from the Department of Religious Affairs of the Akimat of Almaty

On February 15, an information meeting was held at DKU with representatives of the information and explanatory group (hereinafter IRG) for the prevention of religious extremism in Almaty, the Department of Religious Affairs of the Akimat of Almaty.

The speaker of the meeting was Ulzhan Askarbayeva Tungatova, PhD student in Religious Studies, member of the IRG in Almaty.

Laws on countering terrorism have been in force in the Republic of Kazakhstan since 1999, and on countering extremism since 2005. The main purpose of the laws is to ensure the national security of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the activities of explanatory groups are aimed at maintaining the universal security of citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan through education and enlightenment.

During the meeting, students and teachers learned about methods of recruitment to extremist organizations and methods of psychological impact, about preventive measures in force on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan for spreading information and participating in the activities of prohibited organizations, about the procedure for receiving a message about a terrorist threat and hostage-taking in public places.

At the end of the meeting, a question and answer session was held.

It is important for DKU that all students and staff are informed and prepared about terrorist and extremist threats, as well as actions during emergencies.
