“Aktau Dialogue 2025”: Kazakh and German scientists and experts discussed green technologies and the future of the Caspian Sea

The international conference “Aktau Dialogue: Green Hydrogen 2025” was held at Yessenov University, bringing together scientists, government representatives, and business leaders from Kazakhstan and Germany.

The main topics of the three-day forum were the ecology of the Caspian Sea, the development of green hydrogen technologies, and the strengthening of academic partnerships between the two countries.

Opening and welcoming remarks

The first day began with an official opening ceremony. Welcome speeches were given by Prof. Volrad Rommel (President of the Kazakh-German University, DKU), Askar Seidaliev (Vice President of Yessenov University), Didar Batryshev (Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan), Abat Zhängirkhanuly (Deputy Akim of the Mangystau Region), and Ainur Tumysheva (Deputy Director of Hyrasia Energy). They emphasized the importance of scientific cooperation and sustainable technologies, highlighting the role of KINI — a joint DKU-YU initiative fostering dual-degree programs between Kazakh and German universities.

Day Two: Ecology and Green Energy

The second day focused on two key areas — the ecology of the Caspian Sea and green hydrogen technologies. Scientists and experts presented studies on climate change, biodiversity conservation, and energy transition. Among the speakers were Dr. Sebastian Timmerberg (Hamburg University of Applied Sciences), Prof. Dr. Tobias Plessing (Hof University of Applied Sciences), and Manuel Andresh (H2 DIPLO Office, Astana). The second day’s session was officially opened by German Deputy Ambassador Mr. Ulrich Kinne and DKU President Prof. Volrad Rommel.

Day Three: Educational Cooperation

The final day, “Day of Educational Dialogue,” focused on new academic collaborations. KINI Institute partners discussed joint programs, academic mobility, and internship opportunities for students. An open meeting between students and representatives of German universities became a platform for idea exchange and future planning.

International Partnership in Action

“Aktau Dialogue 2025” became not only a scientific platform but also a symbol of sustainable cooperation between Kazakhstan and Germany. The event strengthened academic ties, supported green technology development, and inspired new joint projects in science, energy, and education.
